Happy Halloween!

So here are my top 5 Halloween flicks...you might remember me mentioning them last year!

Dawn of the Dead (classic)

Shaun of the Dead (funny)

It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown (nostailgic)

The Shining (film snobbery)

Candyman (scariest)

Yes, Candyman. You won't understand unless you've seen this and watched it late at night, in the dark, home alone. I can't even watch the trailer for this stupid movie without getting nervous! I didn't even see this at the movies back in '92 when it came out. I was too young and my Mom wouldn't escort me to horror films. Nevertheless, I found ways of obtaining them on VHS. I've always loved horror films and maybe more for that reason.

Candyman stars Virginia Madson as a student writing a thesis on urban legends. She decides to concentrate on the Candyman myth, one that finds its home in a slum neighborhood of inner city America. Tony Todd plays Candyman, formerly a slave who made the mistake of falling in love with a white woman, the daughter of his owner. He now terrorises unsuspecting randoms and you can summon him by saying his name 5 times into a mirror. Sounds ridiculous but director Bernard Rose manages to make use of ever single resource he has available including source material from Clive Barker and Tony Todd's incredibly haunting voice.

Unfortunately the amazing idea I had about a poll which got 24 votes (thanks to all) for my Halloween Costume was for naught. I couldn't get a hold of costume items for the top choice, Rex Kwan Do from Napoleon Dynamite OR for Tugg Speedman. Unbelievable! So I'm recycling an old Devil costume. Original. I'm very disappointed in myself! However, I will post a picture as promised.

Thanks again to all who voted and have a great and safe Halloween!!!

I think Shaun of the Dead is a definite. Not sure about the rest. :) I'd have to include Salem's Lot as my scare-fest (started in high school, haven't seen it since). After that, Charlie Brown was never my thing. I think I prefer funny horror over classic horror -- Evil Dead 2, Armies of Darkness, Shaun of the Dead... All great flicks!

Happy Halloween!

Hey Brian, yeah I totally forgot to write any of the Evil Dead films but I always consider them as a different category to horror for some reason. Army of Darkness is my fave but probably because I was a bit older when that came out compared to the others. I love Ash and will forever be a huge Bruce Campbell fan. Salem's Lot is good but it's SO LONG. That always puts me off. I also love the old black and whites of Frankenstein, Wolfman, Dracula and Dr.Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. Bram Stoker's Dracula also narrowly misses out on the list. My fave horrors will always be Zombie films though...something about their blank stares and hunger for human flesh :) Happy Halloween!

Hi, I know this post is old, but I just found your page.

The Shining is my favorite scary movie of all time. And Candyman, while corny, always terrified me... I don't know why.

I live in Chicago, and went to school at the university where Candyman was filmed. So... my first couple nights there were a little freaky.
