Podcasting, Cooking, 100 Films OH MY!

Tonight I went to see Julie & Julia. It's the story of Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and Julie (Amy Adams), a lost blogger from Queens. It was an interesting concept for a film and I'll discuss it more next week during the radio show I'm doing a fill-in for, my old show Film Central. You can listen to that show at the All Star Cast upload site here. I'll let you know when it's available.
The film was slightly disappointing, but it gave me a corker of an idea. I'm not sure if anyone's done this yet, and I'm sure they have but I'm afraid to google it. I've decided to watch every single film on the AFI top 100 Films list. Each film I'll report on and my deadline is not too ambitious, just 365 days from the date of this blog. Plenty of time to fit in 100 films. This should be a fun exercise, particularly since I've been seeking out films to further educate myself for a while now.
Fear not, I'm still going to see everything new as well. I'd hate to ignore new films just for the sake of learning about the past. I'm always going to have a soft spot for popcorn flicks.
I do also apologise for not blogging as much. I've gone through a big self analysing phase asking questions like, "Who am I to write about movies" and "Why do I think I'm better at this than anyone else?" The truth is I'm just a gal who loves film and I definitely do not think I'm better than anyone at anything.
I hope you enjoy reading my posts because I love writing them and that's what really matters.

Update 6 OCT 09

Life is full. This past week I've been painting the kitchen and finally making the house I purchased months ago feel like a home. My partner is an enthusiastic man who works hard and has been driving all the renovations. Without him I would probably be in bed all day watching movies or on twitter doing not much of anything. I'm grateful to have a house and this gorgeous new-look kitchen.

I also had a visitor stay for 4 days. He's a fellow martial artist from interstate and he was here just to get away and thankfully, volunteer his help with some extra training. He's one of those people that I just get along with as though we shared the same blood. I love having him around and he's got a great sense of humour. I think for four days all we did was recite all of the Lonely Island comedy songs...like a boss.

I've been catching up on TV shows, doing lots of radio and trying to find time to write about the movies I love. The fact is, the good reviews, the in depth studied film-snobbery type reviews, are what you should be reading. I'm just going to post crap here (albeit fun crap).

Listen to my podcast if you like. New ep up today: http://www.cpod.org.au/page.php?id=86 so please check it out.

Oh and remember, every film doesn't have to be award-winning for you to enjoy it. Don't feel guilty or dumber just because you enjoyed something less-than. Don't listen to naysayers...they are usually the same people who refuse to listen to popular music just because it's popular. Watch what you like. :)

ON AIR

Hi you guys. Thanks for stopping by the blog. I've managed to upload a very dated podcast. Turns out for months I couldn't upload any files because I wasn't using IE. Damn you Microsoft! Anyway it finally worked so if you want to have a listen to our Academy Awards Special from months ago, be my guest! Now that we've figured it out, Megan and I will try to do more podcasts or I will at least. Thanks and I'll be re-doing the blog soon.

Nudity! Really! Nakedness! (Sorta)

Dear Friends,

One of my favorite podcasts in the world comes from The Naked Lunch and it's host Ricky D. The guy puts a TON of effort into each episode with intros, sound bytes and well researched arguments. It's the show that opened me up to Wes Anderson films after I'd denounced them totally. Don't think it's for mega film geeks or snobs, because if it was, I wouldn't listen. It's for everyone with an interest in movies.

I highly recommend popping it on your ipod or other music player and listening to it when you walk to work in the morning (good for the environment you know, and your ass or arse for some) or are on the bus. Any way, Ricky needs your help. I need you to please vote for him in an upcoming podcast awards. It will mean a lot to him to win. His shows are produced out of love and that's about it. He spends a lot of his free time for no cash working on this show and the results are there. So even if you haven's listened and don't intend to (ok some people are lazy) please breeze through his message below and click on the link. It only takes a second to vote.

Thank you guys!
A note from The Naked Lunch and Ricky D:

Hey I hate to ask you to do this again but I would not ask unless it was really important to me.

Last time I asked if you guys could vote for me as best podcast at one internet site. Those votes got us enough exposure to be nominated for the 2008 World Podcast Awards! That`s right baby – The Academy Awards of radio shows! Out of 281 000 shows we are one of 10 to be nominated for best TV Film and entertainment podcast.
They base their criteria on …
• Quality of Website Design 15%
• Quality of Sound 15%
• Quality of Podcast Delivery and Show Format 10%
• Relevance of Content 20%

This is huge for us. It is mass free advertising and it will take us from being a little unknown show to a world wide success.

I am asking you all once last time to please PLEASE VOTE for our show.

It only take two seconds and it is the last time. I swear.
Here is the link to vote for us. We are listed under Film and TV – Naked Lunch Radio http://www.podcastawards.com/

You can vote only once a day for 15 days. Please do not vote more than once from your computer or it will cancel out your votes.

I will be happy with just one vote but if you guys can take a second and vote more than just one day – I won`t complain – also asking your friends and family to vote would be awesome

Thank you so much if you do vote.

The Dark Knight ...

I'm still working on my review of The Dark Knight. I can't seem to wrap my thoughts entirely around it. Let me just say, it exceeded expectations which is difficult seeing as mine were sky high!

Podcast update: With a name resolved, format accepted and training underway, hopefully you'll see some audio within the next two weeks pop up on this site! Keep popping back to this site or add me on Facebook or Twitter (see links on the right) to get regular updates.

Christmas comes early...or is it Halloween? There is a bat...

Tonight I'm finally seeing The Dark Knight. It will be emotional seeing Heath Ledger alive and well onscreen when he is so very gone. I think sentimentally, his next film, the one he was doing when he died, will probably get me a bit closer to the thing pumping blood through my body but the Dark Knight will be nothing short of a masterpiece. I'm very excited and my entire day here at work is being spent with bats on the brain. I'll let you all know what it was like...
FYI: Podcast is being planned this week and will hopefully be ready for the first one next week! I hope you are all ready for the soulful sounds of me. I still need a name for the show so if you have any ideas, comment here or email me!
